Black Gold

Our nation is at war, but really it isn’t something that burdens my soul with fear or frustration or whatever emotions that might be associated with war. But here I am typing away on my windows machine about a war being fought for oil. Gaining more access to oil is a legitimate reason to send a nation to war. Any nation with an extravagant amount of wealth has access to a lot of oil. It is reasonable to say that the US government just wants to secure their access to the third largest oil reserve in the world. Thus the war in Iraq should be a huge concern for all Americans, but it doesn’t seem like many Americans even care. Anyway since it is Memorial Day I would like to thank all the men and women who help preserve this nation’s wealth.

  7. americans are historically ignorant of and unpreturbed by the repercussions of their military invasions of soverign nations (with the exception of a few unsuppressable shockers like My Lai). were the bombs to fall on US civilian population centers and their food and water supplies cut off they would be much more concerned with the hollow justifications and rancid machinations of this war.

ah, but it appears the ego-madness here must run its course until checked by suffering and self-destruction. how i wish it were not the least culpable who will pay the dearest price…

anyway, in addition to oil, i think this war is being fought for the purpose of producing and sustaining a mysterious threat against the populace which provides excellent justification for 1) the revocation of civil rights, 2) consolidation of executive power, and 3) militarization of our economy. these means go hand in hand with the single-minded greed of which you speak. it’s a shame there aren’t enough patriots left in this country to send the killer “christians” responsible back to kennebunkport, or perhaps leavenworth.

  9. I am sorry I offended you Justin. Perhaps I am a bit too cynical. Though, I still have not changed my position about the war in Iraq. You are right when you say that the war is not simply about oil. There is another reason why I am a supporter, but I’d rather not discuss it here because it is very personal.
